Bhutan was proud to present the first stamps in the world that “talked” on April 15, 1973.
His Majesty’s Government felt that stamps, in addition to their primary usage for the transportation of mail actually are also little ambassadors of the country and should show the world at large about Bhutan’s age old heritage, culture, people and Government. The “talking stamps” opened a new dimension in stamps where one is able to hear the language, history and music of the Himalayan Kingdom.
They were playable on any Victrola or garmaphone at a speed of 33RPM. The denominations and messages conveyed were as follows:
History of Bhutan ( in the Bhutanese Language)
Royal Bhutan Anthem
History of Bhutan ( in English)
Bhutan Folk Song ( No. 1)
Bhutan Folk Song ( No. 2)
Royal Bhutan Anthem ( in the Bhutanese Language plus Folk song No. 1)
History of Bhutan ( in English plus Folk song No. 1 & 2)
